Analysis of Band and Artist Images

I have selected some posters and CD covers of bands and artists who I think are quite similar to Alex Johnson (my artist) or who my appeal to the same target audience as mine.

Florence and the Machine - Album Cover

This is a current band 'Florence and the Machine' who make music that falls into the soul and indie-rock genre which is similar to mine but just a bit more upbeat.
I like the representation of this album, linking the name of it 'Lungs' with the picture with the lungs on her chest.
The image and the background is quite individual and eye catching. I like the cool, contemporary colours that are used which are not too bright in your face. This reflects the music too.

Mumford and Sons - Album Cover

Mumford and Sons are a band who have just recently caught the media's attention and have made it into the chart with two successful singles. They are an english indie-folk band from London which tells me that the industry is taking an interest to the kind of music my artist makes.
I really like the cover of this album as it is simple yet individual and looks great. The only thing that I would do different would be for the image to be more close up so that the audience can get a clear image of the band.

This is a promotion poster for Mumford and Sons tour. I like the use of the instruments in the photograph which brings the band together and shows the audience who plays which instrument. I also like the text across the middle of the page with the band's name which is the focal point of the image and draws the audience's eye in straight away.




John Mayer - Album Cover

John Mayer is an American artist who creates music that falls into the Acoustic-rock genre. I like this image because it is just the artist and his guitar which is the type of image that I would like have used if I was creating an album cover. It is very simple and I think the only thing that could be improved would be the text, if it was made a little more interesting.

This is a John Mayer promotion poster which I really like! The black and white colour really is effective and adds to the mood of the music. I like how it is a picture of him on stage, doing a sound check which is showing that he is passionate about his music. This is what I would like my image to be similar too.
